In the government institutions category, Dubai Police General Command was awarded for its development of the 2024 Community Volunteering Guide. The guide, officially adopted within the force, aims to structure and empower volunteering in line with national and local laws, while encouraging public participation in Dubai Police’s diverse volunteering programmes.
The Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi also received the award for launching the updated 2024 Abu Dhabi Volunteering Policy. This initiative facilitates volunteer registration and licensing of volunteer teams, while offering specialised training programmes to enhance volunteers’ skills and performance.
In the individuals category, Mohamed Issa Al Hammadi won first place for organising the UAE’s longest Ramadan Iftar table in Ajman, in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent. The initiative involved over 720 volunteers and provided meals to more than 15,000 people. The 4,100-metre table was supported by numerous government and private entities, as well as students, orphans, and low-income families.
The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work emphasised that the Outstanding Supporter of Volunteering Award honours those who significantly enable and develop voluntary work. Contributions can include material or knowledge-based support or creating regulatory policies. The award underlines the importance of collaboration among government, private sector, and civil society in promoting a culture of volunteering, essential to sustainable community development.
To qualify, entities must provide either financial/in-kind support to at least two volunteering programmes amounting to no less than AED 500,000, or offer intellectual support through published studies and research. Alternatively, they may contribute by establishing effective policies that structure and empower voluntary work within institutions.
