Sharjah24: The Sharjah Sports Council recently held an extensive legal workshop to discuss standardising player contracts across the emirate’s sports clubs. The session was led by Dr Omar Hassan bin Haneefa, legal advisor and member of the Council’s Board of Directors, as well as head of its legal committee.

The workshop examined the current contractual practices and proposed a unified framework for drafting sports contracts. The goal is to establish a clear, consistent legal reference for all clubs, ensuring transparency and protecting the rights of both parties while avoiding inconsistencies or individual interpretations.

Fifteen participants took part in the workshop, including executive directors, professional managers, secretaries, and staff responsible for contracts. At the end of the session, the committee consolidated the agreed-upon points for submission to H.E. Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, for formal approval.

Dr Omar bin Haneefa is a certified arbitrator at the GCC Arbitration Centre and the UAE Sports Arbitration Centre. He is also an international sports law lecturer and author in the field of dispute resolution and sports law.
