The board examined preparations for the sailing and rowing teams’ involvement in upcoming international events, including the Modern Sailing Championship, the Rabat International Rowing Festival, and the International Optimist Championship. These competitions are scheduled to take place this month in the Kingdom of Morocco, with a 13-member youth delegation representing the club. This marks the club’s third consecutive participation in these tournaments, overseen directly by the club’s general manager.
His Excellency Khalid Al Midfa emphasised that involvement in such championships demonstrates the club’s dedication to advancing marine sports throughout the year, with a particular focus on the summer season, which, despite its challenging weather, presents a valuable chance to promote physical fitness and international competitiveness. He stated, “Our team’s continued participation for the third year in a row clearly reflects their growing capabilities and their ability to represent the UAE and the emirate of Sharjah with excellence.”
Al Midfa also underscored the significance of encouraging youth to take part in marine sports, especially during the summer months. These activities provide an ideal outlet for productive use of free time, while also fostering physical health, self-confidence, teamwork, and discipline. “In line with this vision, we are committed to organising specialised summer camps across Sharjah’s coastal cities,” he noted. “These camps offer intensive training led by qualified instructors, aimed at discovering emerging talent and refining participants’ abilities.” According to him, these camps are a core part of the club’s long-term vision to nurture a generation of young people who are both knowledgeable and passionate about marine sports, and who can bring national and international achievements to the UAE.
In his closing remarks, Al Midfa reiterated that the club’s initiatives are intended to firmly establish a culture of marine sports among the youth and to strengthen their connection with the sea—an integral part of the UAE’s heritage. He concluded by expressing his wishes for the team’s continued success and for the UAE flag to be raised high in global competitions.
