Sharjah Planetarium to host shows on weekends, public holidays

Sharjah24: The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), affiliated with the University of Sharjah (UOS), has announced that the Sharjah Planetarium will be open to visitors on weekends and official holidays starting from June 2025. The planetarium will present a variety of educational shows and films catering to all age groups.

Prof. Hamid M.K. Al-Naimiy, Director of SAASST, emphasized that this initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, to position the Academy as a leading institution that combines both research and outreach in the fields of astronomy and space sciences.

He added that this step is part of the Academy’s strategic plan to provide an interactive and enriching astronomical experience that is accessible to people of all ages, particularly youth and children, who will drive the future of innovation in science and technology. He also noted that the Academy is expanding its local and international partnerships to offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore the mysteries of space.

Fatima Alkhateri, Director of the Sharjah Astronomical Planetarium Department, stated that this initiative aligns with the UAE leadership’s vision of making knowledge more accessible to the public. She emphasized the Academy’s dedication to merging education and entertainment for an effective learning experience through a variety of shows designed to engage visitors of all ages. She added: “The Academy’s scientific exhibitions makes space science engaging and easy to understand, inspiring curiosity among visitors.”
