Sharjah 24 – AFP: Bayer Leverkusen has officially announced the appointment of Dutch coach Erik ten Hag as the team’s new manager until June 2027. He replaces Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, who has taken over as head coach at Real Madrid.

Coaching background and achievements
Ten Hag, 55, previously managed Manchester United, where he led the club to win the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. Despite these achievements, he was dismissed in November 2024. He will begin his role with the German champions on July 1, 2025, in preparation for the new season.

Challenges ahead for Ten Hag
Ten Hag steps in at a time when Leverkusen is undergoing significant squad changes. Key defender Jonathan Tah is set to leave for Bayern Munich, while star midfielder Florian Wirtz and winger Jeremie Frimpong are reportedly heading to Premier League champions Liverpool. Rebuilding the squad will be one of Ten Hag's major tasks.

Previous success with Ajax
Ten Hag rose to prominence during his tenure at Ajax Amsterdam from 2018 to 2022. Under his leadership, Ajax won three Dutch league titles and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, earning him recognition across European football.
