Sharjah24: As part of its pioneering media mission to spotlight the heritage and rich history of the Bedouin people in Sharjah’s central region, Al Wusta Channel from Al Dhaid, part of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, airs the program "Al Saqqara (Falconry)." This television platform brings renewed attention to one of the oldest and most authentic traditional hobbies of the Bedouins: the art of falcon hunting.

Visual Tribal Chronicle

The program airs every Monday at 6:30 p.m., presenting a visual narrative that captures the true spirit of the desert. The piece explores the experiences of falconers, detailing their hunting expeditions and training practices in a visually engaging manner that reflects the cultural identity and heritage of Sharjah's central region. Falconry features not just as a sport, but as an integral aspect of local heritage.

Falconer and Host

Prepared and presented by journalist Abdulrahman Muheir Al Ketbi, the show gains authenticity from his dual role, both as a presenter and a passionate falconer. His calm and thoughtful style brings depth to the program, as he engages with experienced falconers and enthusiasts in gatherings rich with the wisdom of the desert hunting tradition.

Sharjah Falconers Club

The program highlights the Sharjah Falconers Club, which was founded through a generous decree from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah. The club serves as an essential pillar for safeguarding this respected Arab sport, fostering cultural appreciation, offering assistance to hunters, and coordinating competitions and exhibitions that enhance the significance of falconry for younger generations.

Tradition Meets Modernity

Al Saqqara does more than recount history; it engages with the present and anticipates the future. It addresses modern challenges facing falconers, such as environmental changes, species conservation, legal hunting regulations, and the use of technology in training and care. Each episode thoughtfully blends tradition with innovation, appealing to not only hunting fans but also researchers of heritage and environmental culture.

Visual Heritage Gateway

Saeed Rashid bin Fadel Al Ketbi, Director of Al Wusta Channel from Al Dhaid, stated: “Al Saqqara is part of a series of heritage-focused programs aimed at showcasing life in Sharjah’s central region and documenting local heritage through a modern media lens. The channel continues to offer meaningful content that connects generations and introduces youth to cultural treasures in an engaging, non-repetitive format.”

Modern Visual Appeal

He stated, “The program team is dedicated to delivering verified content with high-quality production, using the most advanced filming and editing technologies.” This enriches the story while maintaining the elegance and variety of every scene. All parties engaged are committed to showcasing falconry in a manner that respects its true essence and historical significance. Falconry transcends mere pastime; it embodies a profound heritage that illustrates the Bedouin's connection to his surroundings and everyday existence.
