Sharjah 24: Sharjah Women's Sports (SWS) has completed its comprehensive system for developing women's sports with the launch of the "Children's Sports" project. The project represents the final link in an interconnected chain covering all age groups and establishing a competitive base ranging from two to four years (preschool age).

Over the years, the SWS has built a structure that includes agreements with schools, children's and girls' centres, as well as a working system with clubs, enabling it to serve all older age groups. However, a field survey revealed an urgent need to cover the preschool category.

A natural continuation

The "Children's Sports" initiative was a natural continuation of the system and a true beginning for a mental and motor enrichment approach that cultivates passion, instils confidence, and launches the first influential steps in the path of young athletes.

Moving and exploring

The project enables children in Sharjah's nurseries to explore the world of movement in a safe and stimulating environment. Sports programmes have been designed to suit their needs, and specialised equipment has been selected from the best international companies to suit their physical and mental abilities. The SWS's technical team collaborates with Sharjah Education Academy (SEA) to ensure that activities are delivered in an engaging manner that encourages children to move and explore while playing.

Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women's Sports, emphasised that the project consolidates the vision of building athletic generations who take their first steps with confidence. The first step makes a difference, and through children's sports, the foundation is laid for creating the champions of the future.

The project has been launched in several nurseries, which have been specially adapted to suit the nature of the selected sports activities. Al Suyoh 7 Nursery hosted judo, while Al Falah Nursery in Al Badi' was dedicated to taekwondo. Fencing activities were implemented at Wasit Nursery 2, and volleyball was launched at Al Qulaya Nursery. Basketball was included in the Al Layyah Nursery programme, while Al Bustan Nursery in Al Dhaid hosted table tennis. Karate was hosted at Al Taiba Nursery in Al Dhaid, while archery was allocated to Kalba Nursery in Block 19.

Unleashing children’s creative energy

Moza Al Shamsi, Director of the SWS, emphasised that the project represents a turning point in shaping children's relationship with sports from their early years, adding that the initiative not only provides equipment, but also creates a space that enhances balance and focus and unleashes children's creative energy, allowing them to grow up loving movement and challenges.

Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Preparation and Follow-up Division, explained that children are not subject to rigid exercises, but rather a space for discovery. Play is combined with movement, transforming each activity into an enjoyable learning experience. The project's programmes were designed after careful field visits to each nursery to ensure they meet the needs of children and stimulate their comprehensive mental and motor development.

With this project, the SWS adds the final foundational link to a system that caters to all age groups; a system that begins with safe play areas and extends to the podium, reaffirming Sharjah's leadership in building a sustainable women's sports future.
