Sharjah 24: Zainab Al Sajwani, Head of the Media Department at the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority (SFRA), reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to offering comprehensive support to fishermen throughout the emirate’s various cities and regions. She highlighted that holding elections to form the boards of fishermen’s societies empowers fishermen to select their representatives freely and with greater ease.

Elections held under Authority supervision

Under the supervision of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, elections for the Board of Directors of the Khorfakkan Fishermen's Cooperative Society took place on Sunday at the Cultural Centre in Khorfakkan. The event was attended by His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Chairman of the SFRA, along with Salem Mohammed Al Mahrazi, Director of the Authority, several officials, and members of the electoral body, which included Khorfakkan fishermen and shareholders.

Approval of reports and election results

The meeting reviewed and approved the society’s administrative and financial reports for 2024. It also saw the election of five members to the Board of Directors for the upcoming term through a secret ballot.

A milestone for fishermen’s representation

Zainab Al Sajwani, Head of the Media Department at the Authority, highlighted that the elections—held for the first time—successfully empowered fishermen to choose their own representatives in the decision-making process. Speaking to “Sharjah 24,” she noted that the election process ran smoothly, with an impressive turnout from registered fishermen and shareholders.
