Sharjah 24 – Reuters: Liverpool took a major step toward clinching the Premier League title with a 1-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday. Trent Alexander-Arnold, coming off an injury, scored the only goal of the match in the 76th minute after a goalmouth scramble, pushing his team closer to a record-equalling 20th league title.

Liverpool on the brink of glory

With 79 points from 33 matches, Liverpool now need just one more win to seal the title. If Arsenal lose to Crystal Palace on Wednesday, Liverpool could be crowned champions midweek. Otherwise, a home win against Tottenham next weekend will do the job.

Missed chances and fine margins

Despite dominating with 28 attempts on goal, Liverpool struggled to convert their chances. Mohamed Salah hit both posts with one shot and the woodwork again just before Alexander-Arnold’s goal. Leicester also showed resilience, with Wilfred Ndidi hitting the post in the first half and Conor Coady’s goal ruled out for a foul earlier in the move.

Relegation confirmed for Leicester

The loss confirmed Leicester City's relegation, ending their Premier League stay after just one season. With 18 points, they can no longer catch 17th-placed West Ham, making it nine consecutive home defeats without scoring—a Premier League record.

Alexander-Arnold returns in style

After missing four games, Alexander-Arnold marked his return with his first-ever left-footed goal, saying:

“I was excited to be back and happy to contribute with a goal. That’s the one type of goal I’ve been missing.”

Now, only a few days stand between Arne Slot’s Liverpool and Premier League glory.
