UOS hosts International Seminar in collaboration with RAED

Sharjah 24: The University of Sharjah (UOS) inaugurated a high-profile international seminar in collaboration with Spain’s Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED), drawing over 60 scholars and researchers from diverse disciplines to address pressing global challenges in education, technology, health, and social sciences. The event, organized by the university’s College of Communication and College of Fine Arts and Design, marked a significant step in fostering cross-border academic dialogue and innovation.

The Seminar was officially opened by Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UOS, who welcomed Dr. Alfredo Rocafort-Nicolau, President of RAED, along with distinguished participants. Speaking on behalf of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, President of UOS, Prof. Al Naimiy emphasized that the seminar is a significant step for fostering dialogue among global experts in higher education, research, and innovation. 

In his address, Prof. Al Naimiy highlighted the vision set forth by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi to position UOS as a regional and global hub for academic excellence. He underscored the university’s commitment to advancing knowledge through international collaboration while addressing pressing issues such as artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability, and public health—key priorities in UOS’s strategic plan for a sustainable future marked by innovation. 

Dr. Alfredo Rocafort-Nicolau expressed his gratitude to UOS for hosting the seminar and praised its efforts in facilitating such an impactful academic gathering. He expressed hope that this event would mark the beginning of ongoing collaborations between RAED and UOS, fostering joint academic research and scholarly exchange. 

A Future-Looking, Multidisciplinary Approach

The event featured a series of sessions that delved into diverse topics. Prof. Youssef Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UOS and an expert in nanotechnology, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education. He explored how AI is reshaping educational landscapes and highlighted UOS's pioneering efforts to integrate AI into academic programs. 

In the field of sustainability, Prof. Nouar Tabet, Dean of the College of Sciences at the University of Sharjah, presented a series of groundbreaking studies conducted by faculty members on advanced materials and plant systems for green energy and desert greening, with a focus on developing sustainable solutions tailored to arid environments. Drawing from his expertise in pioneering solar energy materials, Prof. Tabet highlighted innovations that address pressing environmental challenges across the UAE and the broader region. 

Prof. Nadia Alhasani, Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design at UOS, showcased several creative projects undertaken by students and faculty at the college that underscore the vital role of arts in shaping cultural identity. She emphasized how design programs at UOS foster human-centered discourse while responding to societal transformations. 

Health, Ethics, and Technology

The seminar also featured captivating lectures on health ethics and technology. Prof. José Ramón Calvo explored the historical contributions of Arab medicine to global public health. Meanwhile, Prof. Cecilia Kindelán raised critical questions about ethical challenges posed by AI applications, advocating for stringent frameworks to ensure technology serves society responsibly. 

Dr. José Maria Simón focused on enhancing medical communication with patients, while Dr. Bernat-Noël Tifon, an expert in criminal psychology, sparked debate with his analysis of the paradox of criminal intent, drawing from complex clinical cases. In addition, Dr. David López offered forward-looking perspectives on AI's impact on marketing strategies and human interaction. 

Closing with a Celestial Vision: Visit to Sharjah's Space Academy

The event concluded with a visit to the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), one of UOS’s most advanced facilities dedicated to space exploration. Participants were introduced to cutting-edge research initiatives and technologies spearheaded by SAASST, further cementing Sharjah’s reputation as a hub for scientific innovation. 

A Nexus for Global Scholarship

Notably, the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED) stands as a distinguished institution dedicated to advancing scientific research and expanding knowledge across diverse disciplines including medicine and the sciences. Founded as a platform for global scholarly collaboration, the academy fosters knowledge exchange among researchers in Europe and beyond, offering members opportunities to share groundbreaking discoveries and innovative practices. Through its conferences and workshops, the RAED connects experts from varied fields, encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue while promoting cutting-edge research and disseminating scientific knowledge through multiple channels. 

The academy’s membership includes 19 Nobel laureates in fields such as medicine, physics, and chemistry, selected for their transformative contributions to research and innovation. This elite assembly of pioneering scholars has left indelible marks on scientific progress, solidifying the RAED’s reputation as a nexus of intellectual excellence.
