Power of storytelling at Xposure: Creativity and authenticity

February 21, 2025 / 8:19 PM
Sharjah 24: At Xposure, experts emphasise the evolving nature of storytelling across different mediums. Yohan Wadia, a Gen AI consultant, innovator, and educator, highlights storytelling as an art form in its own right, with filmmaking, writing, and poetry serving as its various expressions. Similarly, Santiago Lyon, Head of Advocacy and Education for the Adobe-led Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), underscores the importance of photographers leveraging multiple tools—such as video, audio, and contextual explanations—to enhance their narratives.

Storytelling as the Core of Artistic Expression

Yohan Wadia stated that Storytelling is an art form in its own right, while filmmaking, writing books, and composing poetry are all expressions of that art. He emphasised that digital storytelling and digital filmmaking are simply mediums of expression and do not diminish the core essence of a story.

The Medium is Secondary to the Message

He stressed that the format used to express creativity—whether digital or traditional—is far less important than the substance of the story itself. Regardless of the medium, what truly matters is the essence of the content and the message it conveys.

Enhancing Storytelling Through Multiple Mediums

Santiago Lyon emphasised the importance of photographers utilising all available tools to enhance their storytelling. Whether through video, audio recordings, or providing context about the circumstances behind their photographs, these elements can enrich the narrative.

Adding Depth to Visual Storytelling

Lyon highlighted that incorporating these additional layers brings greater depth and complexity to a story, making it more engaging for viewers who seek a deeper understanding of the moments captured in photography.
