Active involvement
The championship featured 15 schools and over 153 students, with the Sharjah Olympic Women’s Sports Centre significantly contributing to the involvement of numerous public and private schools. The event served as a venue to examine various school sports programs, emphasising the differences in students' physical evaluations.
Hanan Al Mahmoud, vice chairperson of the Sharjah Women's Sports Foundation, remarked, "Today, we experienced a thorough sporting event where students were able to compete in judo under organised standards, accompanied by accurate physical evaluations."
She added, "What we witnessed today was more than just a competition; it was a vivid reflection of society’s passion for sports." A number of the girls swiftly took to the game, despite it possibly being their initial encounter. This demonstrates that sports play a crucial role in character development, nurturing not just physical skills but also the values of perseverance and resilience—qualities we strive to instil from a young age.
Intense rivalry and physical evaluations
The championship featured judo matches alongside physical and anthropometric assessments, all supervised by a scientific and medical committee. The assessments uncovered diverse fitness levels, highlighting potential areas for enhancement and growth across various sports.
Mouza Al-Shamsi, director of the Sharjah Women's Sports Foundation, emphasised the significance of incorporating school sports into students' lives: "Students experienced judo for the first time today, and this is how individuals discover their passion for sports—by trying them in a real environment." Today, on the judo mat, they experienced their first encounter with the sport, and through this experience, they began to recognise their interests and enthusiasm for it.
She stated, "Our aim is not only to enhance physical abilities but to spark students’ enthusiasm for sports and motivate them to participate in these activities consistently." Today, we observed a remarkable enthusiasm for sports as a whole, extending beyond just judo. This enthusiasm serves as the cornerstone that motivates individuals to embrace sports as a way of life. Introducing sports to children at an early age helps foster a healthier and more balanced society.
She also highlighted the essential role of schools in this initiative: "This championship would not have been successful without the support of schools." Their partnership was crucial in bringing this event to fruition, highlighting the important role that educational institutions have in fostering a sporting culture for future generations.
Supporting women’s sports and school initiatives
Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Preparation and Follow-up Division at Sharjah Women's Sports, emphasised that the championship is in line with the goals of the "Specialised Schools" initiative in Sharjah, which seeks to increase women's participation in various sports.
She remarked, "This championship marks the eighth in a series of school tournaments aimed at advancing our efforts to establish a comprehensive women's sports system." As a result of these efforts, we have effectively established a thorough database of measurements and capabilities for more than 5,000 students. This data is essential for enhancing training programs and elevating their quality through scientific foundations. The success of these initiatives and the promotion of sports culture among young generations owe much to the invaluable contributions of our educational partners.
