Sharjah24: Professor Yousef Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Sharjah, inaugurated the annual student project exhibition of the Department of Architectural Engineering. The exhibition featured over 40 projects, representing a selection of works that reflect a forward-looking vision of sustainable architecture and contemporary design.
The projects on display ranged from foundational design concepts to final-year graduation projects. These included innovative designs of smart and sustainable residential buildings, cultural centers, and tourism and heritage projects. Among the highlights of the exhibition were designs of the Sharjah Cultural Center and Al-Falaj Resort, a unique project integrating agriculture with architecture. Additionally, the exhibition featured urban designs and heritage restoration projects, such as the revitalisation of Al-Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, as well as various other architectural designs spanning sustainable architecture, smart buildings, mixed-use developments, cultural and heritage projects, educational and community facilities, and tourism and entertainment ventures.
Following a tour of the projects and discussions with students about their design concepts and implementation strategies, Prof. Haik praised the exceptional quality of the works exhibited. He emphasised the importance of integrating modern technologies with the region’s architectural heritage, commending both students and faculty for their efforts in presenting innovative architectural solutions that cater to the needs of the local community while aligning with the rapid urban development of the United Arab Emirates.
Prof. Emad Mushtaha, Chair of the Department of Architectural Engineering, remarked, “This exhibition exemplifies the vision of the College of Engineering and the Department of Architectural Engineering to prepare a new generation of architects capable of translating creative ideas into tangible realities. At the University of Sharjah, we believe that architecture is not merely about constructing buildings; rather, it is a harmonious blend of reality and imagination; creativity and innovation. Our department is dedicated to arming its students with the essential skills to excel as architects—from conceptualization and design development to practical application and execution. This holistic approach is what sets University of Sharjah graduates apart and ensures that their work serves the community and meets its evolving needs.”
