The first stage of the competition took place on Saturday afternoon on Kalba Beach, attracting 53 boats and over 477 sailors. The competition included two categories: one for citizens representing various regions of the UAE and an open category with participants from the GCC.
In the citizens category, 33 teams raced over a 4.2-kilometer distance. The Al Yah boat, captained by Nasser Ghasib Al Masmari, took first place, followed by the Al Barq boat in second and the Wadi Sahm boat in third. The event showcased rising talent that could shape the future of rowing sports in the UAE.
The open category saw 20 teams from the GCC compete, with Belarab boat from Oman, led by Captain Hamid bin Salem Al Bahri, clinching the top spot. Shabab Sohar, also from Oman, took second, while the Barq boat from the UAE secured third place.
The event was praised for its excellent organisation, successfully reviving and preserving Emirati maritime heritage. The championship also included various traditional games and performances, such as the tug of war, wrestling, burlap race, and Meet game. Visitors enjoyed the heritage village showcasing local crafts like gargoor and shosh production and enjoyed marine chants.
