More than 120 employees from EPAA participated in the campaign, in addition to more than 100 institutions and government agencies, 70 schools and more than 2,173 male and female students.
The initiative included planting more than 5,000 seedlings of local trees, such as Ghaf and Sidr, which are important environmental pillars, due to their prominent role in enhancing biodiversity.
Her Excellency Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of EPAA, confirmed that the campaign comes within the emirate's efforts to promote environmental sustainability and the culture of afforestation, in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which emphasise the importance of preserving the environment and biodiversity. She added that the Authority continues to implement pioneering environmental initiatives to increase green spaces and establish a culture of afforestation and environmental responsibility among individuals and institutions, enhancing Sharjah's leading role in protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development.
Al Suwaidi confirmed that EPAA efforts are not limited to planting trees, but also include enhancing environmental awareness and establishing the concept of sustainability in society. The selection of Ghaf and Sidr trees, known for their ability to adapt to the region's environment, reflects the authority commitment to rehabilitating natural areas and reserves and achieving environmental balance. The initiative also contributes to improving air quality and preserving natural resources, in line with Sharjah's environmental strategy.
Al Suwaidi pointed out that EPAA continues to launch environmental campaigns in cooperation with various concerned parties, to ensure the sustainability of natural resources and protect the environment for future generations, stressing that afforestation is one of the effective solutions to confront climate change, praising the efforts of the main partners and supporters of the initiative.
The campaign received distinguished participation from government institutions and the educational sector, as volunteers contributed to planting seedlings in a sustainable natural environment, which consolidates the culture of giving and environmental responsibility. The participants expressed their pride in contributing to this initiative supports environmental efforts in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Ghaf and Sidr trees are local species that play a major role in strengthening the ecosystem, as they are characterised by their ability to adapt to desert climatic conditions, in addition to their importance in supporting wildlife and providing natural habitats for various living organisms.
It is worth noting that Al Muntather 2 Reserve in Al Bataeh area is an integrated reserve located on the Sharjah-Mleiha road, and covers an area of 9 square kilometres. Despite its desert nature, it is rich in many trees, pastures, plants and wild animals, and can accommodate the cultivation of more than one and a quarter million Ghaf and Sidr trees.
