In a recent statement, the UAE Ministry of Defence announced the acquisition of Rafale jets as part of a "historic deal" signed with France's Dassault Aviation. This agreement underscores the deep strategic partnership between the UAE and France.
The acquisition is part of a broader initiative to modernise the UAE's defence capabilities. This includes upgrading the Air Force fleet with cutting-edge military equipment to address evolving regional and global security challenges.
The jets were officially handed over during a ceremony in Paris, attended by Mohamed bin Mubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and high-ranking French representatives.
Al Mazrouei highlighted that, under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Armed Forces have undergone significant transformation, making them among the most capable in the region. He emphasised a strategy focused on acquiring advanced weaponry that enhances combat efficiency.
Major General Rashed Mohammed Al Shamsi, Commander of the UAE Air Force, noted the Rafale's proven effectiveness in military operations globally. The acquisition supports building an integrated armed force and enhances the UAE's air and air defence capabilities.
The agreement also includes a comprehensive training program for pilots and technicians, ensuring high readiness levels among national personnel.
The Rafale jets are equipped with advanced technologies that enable them to perform multiple missions, including reconnaissance and precise attacks on land and sea targets. This makes them a valuable addition to the UAE Air Force.
Valued at €16.6 billion, the Rafale deal represents one of the most significant defence agreements in UAE-France relations, including the production of 80 state-of-the-art fighter jets equipped with advanced defence technologies.
