SCC approves Sharjah Ports restructuring

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) called Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority to supporting the national economy and creating an attractive investment environment in accordance with the best international standards.

Establishing a free zone with a specialised infrastructure

Recommending in the same context the establishment of a free zone and a specialised infrastructure in the fields of food, supply chains and logistics services to support the emirate and the UAE orientations in enhancing food security and pointing out what the Authority is keen on according to its business system of environmental sustainability and development within the standard environmental standards that preserve the sustainability of natural resources.

Preparing students to meet Sharjah Ports’ jobs

The Council called in its eighth session held on Thursday, chaired by Her Excellency Halima Humaid Al Owais, Vice President of the Council, in coordination with universities and academies to qualify students in the specialisations required by the Authority's jobs in all areas of its specialisations from national professionals.

The Council approved the minutes of the seventh session, discussed its recommendations regarding the policy of the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, and the report received from the Committee for Preparing the Draft Recommendations, read by member Dr. Sultan Khamis Al Zaabi, the committee’s rapporteur.

Supporting national investment system

The report stated that SCC discussed in its third session the policy of Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, which was held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, as part of its work for the second regular session of the eleventh legislative term, in the presence of Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Member of the Executive Council, Chairman of Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, and the accompanying attendees. The Council approved the items of the recommendations after discussing them. Recommendations emphasised the importance of restructuring Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority to support its integrated and exemplary national investment system that takes into account the elements of development and introduces the Emirate of Sharjah as a strategic investment destination in global economic forums.

The Council's interventions called for building innovative technologies in artificial intelligence, privatising a number of services, as well as a realistic study of investment climates and their changes, and a direction based on economic studies of promising investment markets and targeting qualitative industries.

SCC Vice-President thanked the Committee for Preparing the Draft Recommendations, the Economic, Industrial and Financial Affairs Committee, and applicants for their appreciated efforts in participating in the good preparation of the topic of discussion. She also thanked members of the Council, and everyone who contributed and shared their comments and opinions, from the employees of the General Secretariat for their efforts and fruitful cooperation in enriching the dialogue and discussion.

At the end of the session, the Secretary-General of the Council, His Excellency Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, announced that the next session, will be held on the morning of Thursday, the thirteenth of February, to discuss the policy of Sharjah Health Authority (SHA).
