Sharjah 24: In a significant step reflecting its leadership in education and cultural heritage preservation, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by obtaining the ISO 21001:2018 certification for Educational Organizations Management Systems.

This achievement positions the institute as the first governmental educational institution in Sharjah and the first cultural institution in the Middle East to receive this prestigious certification in education, cementing its status as a pioneering organization blending authenticity with innovation.

Ongoing Contributions to Education and Heritage

This accomplishment is a testament to the SIH’s continuous efforts in advancing education and cultural heritage. The certification follows the SIH’s successful renewal of its accreditation by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in September 2024 for a three-year period, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence. The ISO certification, valid from December 2024 to December 2027, is subject to annual reviews, ensuring ongoing compliance with the highest quality standards.

Highlighting Sharjah as a Beacon of Innovation and Cultural Identity

His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, expressed his pride in this achievement, stating: "Receiving this global certification reflects our steadfast commitment to safeguarding and enriching cultural heritage through exceptional education. It also underscores the strategic vision of Sharjah, led by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who places great emphasis on heritage and culture as fundamental pillars of sustainable development. This certification further strengthens the SIH’s position as a leading educational and cultural entity, highlighting Sharjah as a beacon of innovation and a guardian of cultural identity in the region and beyond."

Dr. Al Musallam emphasised that this success is the result of the tireless efforts of a dedicated team and trusted partners who work relentlessly to realize the SIH’s vision of becoming a global hub for knowledge dissemination and cultural preservation. He added that the certification highlights the institute’s unwavering commitment to delivering innovative educational programs that prepare specialized professionals capable of continuing the journey of preserving Sharjah’s rich heritage.

He noted that this milestone marks a qualitative leap in enhancing the SIH’s role as a center of excellence in heritage and cultural studies. The institute remains steadfast in its mission to continuously develop its programs and curricula in alignment with global changes, supporting Sharjah’s ambition to solidify its position as a global capital for culture and heritage.

A Commitment to Academic Excellence and Community Engagement

Dr. Khalid Al-Shehhi, Director of the Academic Department at the SIH, commented:
"The ISO 21001:2018 certification represents a historic milestone that reinforces the Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s dedication to academic excellence. We are committed to developing curricula aligned with global standards and offering innovative educational services that benefit society and enhance the institute’s reputation locally and internationally."

The certification reflects the institute’s commitment to providing comprehensive services in three key areas:

  • Specialised educational programs in cultural heritage to train professionals capable of making impactful contributions to this vital field.
  • In-depth scientific research to advance knowledge and understanding of cultural heritage.
  • Technical and scientific consultancy services to support projects and organizations focused on heritage preservation and development.
