Out of the 10,457 reported deaths, 9,757 occurred along the so-called Atlantic route, which is considered the world's most dangerous migration path. Additionally, 700 deaths were reported among those trying to reach Spain via Mediterranean routes.
The report noted a 58% increase in migrant deaths compared to the previous year, highlighting the growing dangers of migration by sea.
Caminando Fronteras also reported that 1,538 children and 421 women were among those who died. The report identified April and May as the deadliest months for migrants attempting the journey.
The organisation compiles its data based on reports from migrant families and official statistics from rescue operations. The findings underscore the deadly reality faced by migrants seeking to reach European shores.
