Sharjah24: The Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties (SCLD) has successfully wrapped up its national awareness campaign on learning difficulties, which took place in strategic partnership with various ministries and government entities from 1 September to 30 November 2024.
The campaign effectively increased understanding and scientific knowledge regarding learning difficulties while improving the quality of education and diagnosis for those facing these challenges.

The campaign included educational programmes, awareness activities, seminars, and workshops aimed at 12 government and private institutions in Sharjah and other emirates, such as the Higher Colleges of Technology, the American University of Sharjah, the Social Services Department, and Zayed University in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

A standout moment of the campaign was the Learning Difficulties Conference, which took place under the theme "Shared Challenges and Innovative Solutions." The conference offered recommendations for implementing periodic and comprehensive evaluation systems for educational plans designed for individuals with learning difficulties. It emphasised the use of modern assessment tools and open scientific resources globally to enhance educational performance sustainably.

The campaign achieved a remarkable 95% public satisfaction rate for its awareness events, especially the youth dialogue session on World Mental Health Day. This session received acclaim for equipping students, parents, and the general public with strategies and consultations regarding the influence of mental health on academic performance, the prevention of psychological disorders, and methods for providing psychological support.

The Learning Difficulties Simulation Lab witnessed significant community engagement, and the centre’s social media channels witnessed significant interaction, including awareness messages and advice from social and psychological experts for the parents of individuals with learning difficulties.

Dr Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties (SCLD), highlighted that the campaign's success signifies a crucial advancement in enhancing societal awareness and broadening scientific understanding regarding the support of individuals with learning difficulties. She emphasised the campaign’s role in strengthening the abilities of educational institutions and families to recognise the needs of this group while also fostering better communication among educational institutions, families, and the community.

Dr Al Suwaidi stated, "Through initiatives such as the Learning Difficulties Conference and the youth dialogue session, we presented a thorough vision for delivering psychological and educational support to students while highlighting the centre’s essential services, programmes, and initiatives." The centre dedicates itself to introducing innovative and sustainable programmes that support individuals with learning difficulties and their families, thereby facilitating their integration into society.
