Sharjah 24: As part of its efforts to enhance digital security and protect society from cyber threats, Sharjah Police General Command launched its awareness campaign “Be Aware”.
This comes in cooperation with its strategic partners: Sharjah Islamic Bank, UAE Pro League, Arada Real Estate Company, and Vox Cinema.
The campaign will continue for a month, with the aim of educating a wide segment of society about the dangers of electronic fraud and emerging phishing methods, in addition to enhancing the security culture in the digital space.
The “Be Aware” campaign is part of a series of Sharjah Police awareness initiatives through which it seeks to consolidate the concepts of prevention and digital awareness, thus contributing to creating a safe electronic environment that keeps pace with rapid technological developments.
Brigadier General Ahmed Haji Al Sarkal, Director General of the General Department of Community Protection and Prevention at Sharjah Police, confirmed that the campaign will provide comprehensive awareness materials in three languages: Arabic, English, and Urdu, through various media outlets and social media platforms of Sharjah Police; to educate the public about electronic fraud methods, phishing methods, and mechanisms for verifying personal accounts. Awareness materials will also be distributed in sports stadiums and Vox Cinema halls in the Emirate, with the aim of reaching the largest segment of society members, and providing innovative awareness messages that suit different age groups.
Brigadier General Al Sarkal added that the campaign will include the "Ethical Hacking" competition, which simulates multiple scenarios of electronic crimes, such as phishing and electronic hacking. The competition involves participants finding a loophole in a security or software system, and solving some digital challenges. It is directed at university students in particular, and members of society in general.
The Director General of the General Department of Community Protection and Prevention stressed the importance of the role of community members in confronting cybercrimes by enhancing digital awareness, verifying the credibility of information, and not sharing personal or financial data with unreliable parties. He called on the public not to hesitate to report any cybercrime or blackmail cases they are exposed to or negative behaviours, through the "Haris" service available on the Sharjah Police website and its smart application, or through the following numbers (0559992158), and the number (065943228), or by contacting the number (999) designated for emergency cases.
