Sharjah24: Brazilian star Vinícius Júnior of Real Madrid has won the FIFA World Player of the Year award for 2024 during the FIFA awards ceremony held in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Vinícius Júnior received the award from Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA.
After receiving the award, the Brazilian star said, "I don’t know where to start, but it was impossible to imagine reaching this level when I was a child playing in the streets of a poor environment. Getting here is an inspiration for children, and I thank those who voted for me, including players, coaches, and journalists. This is a very important award."
He added, "I also thank my family who helped me achieve my dream, and I thank club president Florentino Pérez and coach Carlo Ancelotti, who trusted me a lot."
The Brazilian winger continued, "I aim to make a difference this season with the help of my teammates and to continue for a long time with Real Madrid, the greatest club in the world."
Vinícius Júnior concluded his message by saying, "I thank Flamengo for giving me the opportunity to play football at a professional level, and I also thank my teammates in the Brazilian national team for their support and strength."
Vinícius contributed to his team winning four titles in 2024: the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup.
The Brazilian star and his Real Madrid teammates are looking forward to a fifth title when they face Mexican club Pachuca in the FIFA Club World Cup final at Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar, today, Wednesday.
