Sharjah24: Chelsea has narrowed the gap with Liverpool by defeating Brentford 2-1 in the sixteenth round of the English Premier League.
Chelsea finished the first half ahead with a goal from left-back Marc Cucurella, who scored with a header from a cross by Noni Madueke in the 43rd minute of the match held at Stamford Bridge.
In the second half, forward Nicolas Jackson added Chelsea's second goal in the 80th minute with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area, benefiting from a quick run from midfield and a pass from his teammate, Argentine Enzo Fernandez.
Brentford reduced the deficit with a goal from striker Bryan Mbeumo in the 90th minute.
Chelsea secured their tenth league victory and fifth in a row, raising their points total to 34, placing them second in the standings and reducing the gap with Liverpool, who lead with 36 points and have a game in hand.
The London team benefited from Liverpool's draw with Fulham at 2-2 on Sunday, as well as distancing themselves from Arsenal, who is third in the table with 30 points after also drawing 0-0 with Everton.
As for Brentford, they remain at 23 points in twelfth place after suffering their seventh loss of the season.
