Sharjah24: Private schools in Sharjah have achieved remarkable results in the 2023 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), reflecting outstanding performance at both national and regional levels.
These achievements were highlighted in an international report presented by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) during a results forum held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States.

The TIMSS study, a prestigious global initiative, assesses student performance in mathematics and science to benchmark education systems worldwide and explore strategies to improve outcomes.

The Sharjah private school sample included 5,567 Year 4 students from 116 schools and 4,630 Year 8 students from 108 schools across all curricula using Arabic or English as the medium of instruction.

Sharjah schools ranked 29th globally in mathematics and 28th in science for Year 4 among 72 education systems. For Year 8, they achieved an impressive 10th place in mathematics and 13th in science.

Notably, 51 private schools in Sharjah scored above the international average in Year 4 mathematics, with 38 exceeding the benchmark in science. For Year 8, 35 schools surpassed the international average in both subjects.

Additionally, four Sharjah schools received the "Advanced International Standard" classification in Year 4 mathematics and science. Twenty schools achieved the "High International Standard" in Year 4 mathematics, while 64 schools met the "Intermediate International Standard" in Year 4 science and 54 in Year 8 mathematics.

Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, expressed pride in these accomplishments, congratulating participating schools and commending the dedication of administrative and teaching staff, as well as students and their families. She attributed the success to the unwavering support of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

This achievement aligns with the Authority’s vision to enhance education quality and academic excellence across the emirate. Through its strategic programmes, the Authority aims to equip students with skills that meet global standards, fostering innovation and leadership, and supporting the UAE's ambitions for international competitiveness in science and mathematics.
