Sharjah24: For the second consecutive year, Swedish world champion Jonas Andersson, piloting boat number 1 for Team Sweden, claimed the "Best Time" title in the speed race known as the "Kilo Break."
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council, hosted the race at Khalid Lagoon on Saturday as part of the "Sharjah Grand Prix," the final round of the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship, in Sharjah. The Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority is organising the 23rd edition of the event, which will conclude with the main race tomorrow (Sunday).

Jonas Andersson, representing "Team Vietnam," secured the "Kilo Break" title for the Sharjah round, boosting his tally and chances of clinching this year's championship to 99 points. He leads by just three points ahead of Canadian Rusty Wyatt, the driver of boat number 17 for Team Sharjah, who retains a slim chance of taking the title from Andersson.

Andersson completed the 2057-metre Khalid Lagoon course with a fastest lap time of 45.750 seconds, securing pole position for Sunday's main race. He outpaced Erik Stark, the driver of boat number 4 for Victory Team, by 0.199 seconds, who finished second. Emirati racer Thani Al Qemzi, piloting boat number 5 for Team Abu Dhabi, claimed third place with a lap time of 46.537 seconds.

In the sprint races, Jonas Andersson won the first race, earning 10 additional points, followed by Frenchman Peter Morin in second place with 9 points and Finnish racer Sami Selio in third with 8 points. Erik Stark won the second sprint race, adding 10 points to his tally, with Thani Al Qimzi taking second place and earning 9 points, and Poland's Bartek Marszalek finishing third to claim 8 points.
