Sharjah24: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering economic ties between Sharjah and Republic of Rwanda. By fostering investment and trade cooperation, the Chamber aims to expand opportunities for the UAE business community and its counterpart in Rwanda.
These remarks were made during a meeting held at SCCI’s headquarters between Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and John Mirenge, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the UAE, along with his accompanying delegation.
The meeting was attended by Halima Humaid Ali Al Owais, SCCI Board Member; Mohamed Rashid Ali Demas, SCCI Board Member; Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI, and Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of International Relations Department at SCCI.
Discussions during the meeting centered on the potential inclusion of Rwanda in the Sharjah Chamber’s annual trade mission to East Africa. This initiative reflects the Chamber's commitment to broadening investment collaboration between Sharjah and promising African markets.
The trade mission aims to establish new channels for trade and tourism exchange and promote joint investments with Rwanda across various economic sectors, thereby supporting the sustainable development plans of both sides.
Abdallah Sultan Al Owais welcomed the Rwandan Ambassador and his accompanying delegation. He emphasised the importance of fostering cooperation with Rwanda’s private sector to strengthen economic and investment ties.
He praised the exceptional bilateral relations between the UAE and Rwanda, pointing to the significant progress these relations have witnessed in recent years, particularly in the economic sphere.
Al Owais noted that the promising indicators for future economic collaboration between the business community in Sharjah and its counterpart in Rwanda are underpinned by the UAE’s position as one of the leading sources of foreign direct investment in Rwanda.
These investments are primarily focused on key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, healthcare, agribusiness, oil and gas, manufacturing, construction, real estate, and tourism. He emphasised that the dynamic opportunities emerging in Rwanda create a conducive environment for expanding Emirati investments in the coming period.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the significance of sustained efforts to deepen economic ties between the business communities of both countries. They highlighted the need to build on the positive outcomes of the UAE-Rwanda Business Forum, hosted by the Sharjah Chamber in November 2023.
The forum resulted in the signing of three agreements and memorandums of understanding, paving the way for enhanced partnerships, expanded investment opportunities, increased trade exchange, sustainable economic growth, and the exploration of new, high-potential investment prospects in both nations.
