Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Founder of Al Qasimia University (AQU), the international conference organised, on Wednesday, by Al Qasimia University in cooperation with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) kicked off.
The conference is held under the title "Content Production between Institutional Media and Social Media - Problems of Integration and Competition".
The conference was opened with a session attended by His Excellency Jamal Al Tarifi, President of AQU; His Excellency Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Director of the University; His Excellency Prof. Dr. Sami Al Sharif, Secretary-General of the Association of Islamic Universities and former Egyptian Minister of Information; and His Excellency Jamal Nassar Al Suwaider, Executive Director of the News Content Sector at WAM, in the presence of a number of experts and prominent figures in the media field, with the participation of more than 45 researchers from 12 countries.
His Excellency Prof. Dr. Awad Al Khalaf stressed that the conference comes within the framework of the university's commitment to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Founder of Al Qasimia University, in enhancing academic communication and building bridges of cooperation with academic and media institutions, discussing the challenges related to the production of purposeful content on social media platforms, and affirming the complementary relationship with official media institutions.
Al Khalaf stressed that the conference comes in cooperation with WAM, which represented an advanced model in changing its structure and strategy to keep pace with these developments.
His Excellency Prof. Dr. Sami Al Sharif, Secretary-General of the Association of Islamic Universities and former Egyptian Minister of Information pointed out in his speech the importance of enhancing cooperation between media and educational institutions, and stressed the role of the media in shaping community awareness and promoting human values, praising the role of the Emirate of Sharjah in preserving the Arab and Islamic identity according to a moderate approach that preserves the values and traditions of the Arab family, whether from official media institutions.
In his speech, delivered on behalf of the Director-General of WAM, His Excellency Jamal Nassar Al Suwaider discussed the importance of the role of the media in keeping pace with digital developments that affect the content industry, praising the cooperation between WAM and AQU in many joint events and programmes.
His Excellency Professor Ali Obaid Al Hamli, the Emirati writer and media professional and guest of honour at the conference, stressed the importance of the content provided by new content creators and the need to rationalise and evaluate it in accordance with legal and ethical laws and charters.
His Excellency Jamal Al Turaifi, President of AQU, accompanied by His Excellency Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Director of the University, and His Excellency Prof. Dr. Hisham Abbas Zakaria, Dean of the College of Communication, honoured the conference guests and speakers.
The panel discussion tackled many scientific papers in addition to organising workshops on artificial intelligence applications and the news industry journey at WAM, and an exhibition organised by the Emirates Photography Society.
