Sharjah24: Al Qasimia University recently held a lecture titled “Ancestral Heritage and Descendant Values,” delivered by His Excellency Salem bin Hamad Al Shamsi, the first Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council.
The event, conducted in the university theatre, was attended by His Excellency Jamal Al Turaifi, President of Al Qasimia University, His Excellency Prof. Awad Al Khalaf, the University Chancellor, along with deans, faculty members, administrative staff, and students. The lecture aligned with the UAE’s National Day celebrations.

His Excellency Al Shamsi explored key milestones in the UAE’s history, focusing on the pre-union era and its influence on the establishment of the modern state. He also highlighted the pivotal role played by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his fellow rulers in signing the Union Document, drafting the UAE Constitution, and proclaiming the foundation of the United Arab Emirates on December 2, 1971—a defining moment that reshaped the region’s history.

Al Shamsi praised Sheikh Zayed’s visionary leadership, describing him as an exceptional figure whose deep commitment to unity and solidarity among the emirates laid the foundation for the nation’s success.

“Sheikh Zayed, may he rest in peace, was a remarkable leader who not only influenced our present but also charted the course for our future,” Al Shamsi said. “He significantly contributed to empowering the Emirati people and establishing modern institutions.”

He elaborated on Sheikh Zayed’s extensive efforts in creating ministries and developing infrastructure post-union. Sheikh Zayed firmly believed that a nation’s progress begins with its people, which is why he prioritised projects in education and healthcare across the UAE.

The lecture also touched on the vital role of education in national development. Al Shamsi underscored the importance Sheikh Zayed placed on education as a cornerstone for advancement, noting that the UAE today serves as a model for educational innovation through its continuous investment in schools, universities, and access to education for all citizens and residents.

Additionally, Al Shamsi shared insights from his career in politics and administration. He reflected on his tenure as a member of the Federal National Council and later as its Secretary-General, where he contributed to the country’s legislative and political progress. He also recounted his leadership of the Sharjah Consultative Council in 1999, a period he described as both challenging and rewarding.

The event concluded with His Excellency Jamal Al Turaifi presenting a commemorative shield to His Excellency Salem bin Hamad Al Shamsi in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the nation and his dedication to sharing his experiences with the university’s students.
