During a meeting convened by the General Secretariat with the award’s jury at the Department of Culture in Sharjah, the committee's report was reviewed in detail.
Abdullah Al Sheikh of Morocco secured first place with his research titled “The Arab World in Orientalist Art: Civilizational and Aesthetic Dimensions,” which explores Professor Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Department of Culture and Secretary General of the Award, said: “The Sharjah Award for Fine Arts Critical Research is proceeding with a new cycle, affirming the importance of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah’s patronage of this field of knowledge, which sheds light on Arab fine arts from all critical aspects. The award has established, based on His Highness’s vision, a specialized critical culture that is the first of its kind in the Arab world in fine arts.”
Al-Qasir stated, “With the announcement of the award winners today, the Arab Critical Library has recognized more than 50 male and female critics following extensive participation. This session has garnered contributions from various countries, including the UAE, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and others.” Al-Qasir emphasized that this participation reflects the distinctive nature of the award, showcasing its artistic and creative significance within the Arab world.
He referred to the tireless efforts made by the jury of the current session, which consisted of: Dr. Abdul Nabi Astif (Syria), Dr. Salam Jabbar (Iraq), and Dr. Charbel Dagher (Lebanon), explaining that the committee developed an arbitration strategy to select the winning research papers, and the deliberations between the three committee members focused on the extent to which the researchers represented the title of the fifteenth session, and the extent to which they represented the intellectual and cognitive requirements included in the award’s theme on the one hand, and suggested by the method determined by the researcher to approach the award’s theme on the other hand, and the extent to which the research introductions matched the results and the extent to which the language, logic, grammar, morphology, and spelling were sound.
Al-Qasir announced that the Sharjah Award for Fine Arts Critical Research winners will be honored next December.
