Sharjah 24: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, commended the remarkable accomplishment of the Arabic Historical Dictionary, which encompasses 127 volumes.
His Highness recognised the united efforts and commitments of scholars from throughout the Arab world, referring to the dictionary as a cherished gift to the Arab nation. He highlighted that the dictionary will be available in multiple formats to assist researchers and young individuals.

His Highness, the heads of Arabic language academies, and the Board of Trustees of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah met at the academy's headquarters in University City on Tuesday morning to make this announcement.

Sheikh Sultan began by welcoming the distinguished attendees and congratulating them on this remarkable achievement that resulted from the collaboration of Arab academies. He expressed his appreciation by stating, “We will inscribe their names in gold on this noble work.”

His Highness emphasised the extensive seven-year endeavour that has culminated in the dictionary, which captures the complete Arabic lexicon from pre-Islamic times to the present. He characterised the completion of the dictionary as a significant milestone for the Arab world, and he expressed his appreciation to everyone involved, particularly the Union of Arab Scientific Academies in Cairo, which established the foundational guidelines for this monumental project.

Recognising the importance of widely disseminating the Arabic Historical Dictionary, His Highness outlined several modern methods of access, taking into account the logistical challenges associated with acquiring the entire collection. Online access to the dictionary and a dedicated mobile app for simple searching is now available. In the upcoming months, we plan to launch the "GPT Dictionary Project," an AI-driven feature that aims to enhance interactive engagement with the dictionary.

Sheikh Sultan also discussed the upcoming comprehensive Arabic encyclopaedia, which will integrate science, literature, and the arts, under the guidance of scholars who have contributed to the dictionary. This project seeks to enable swift, effective research through careful organization.

In conclusion, His Highness conveyed his aspiration that the Arabic language academies would enhance public understanding through targeted seminars and lectures, elevating the status of scholars and enlightening the community about their essential contributions. The cultural initiatives, integral to Sharjah’s vision, seek to enhance the Arab world in terms of knowledge, religion, and humanity.
At the meeting, several heads of Arabic language academies expressed their congratulations to His Highness on the completion of the dictionary and recognised his unwavering support. They highlighted the dictionary’s linguistic and historical importance and conveyed their appreciation to Sheikh Sultan for his commitment to promoting the Arabic language throughout the region.
