Human Rights Council adopts UAE-led resolution for Yemen

The resolution was presented by Ambassador Jamal Al Musharakh, the UAE's Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva. He emphasised that the resolution embodies one of the key objectives of the Human Rights Council: to work collaboratively with the affected state and strengthen its national institutions to promote and protect human rights through constructive dialogue and technical support.

The resolution calls on the Office of the High Commissioner to provide essential support to the Yemeni government in fulfilling its human rights obligations and addressing the development and humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people. It also aims to enhance the capabilities of the Independent National Commission to Investigate Allegations of Human Rights Violations and International Humanitarian Law, ensuring accountability and justice.

Additionally, the resolution reaffirms strong support for international efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire, end the conflict in Yemen, and facilitate meaningful political dialogue for peace. It advocates for the removal of barriers to humanitarian aid delivery.

The resolution urges all UN bodies, including the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and all nations to provide the necessary resources to support Yemen's transitional process and address the repercussions of violence and socio-economic challenges, in coordination with international donors and aligned with Yemeni authorities' priorities.

Ambassador Al Musharakh stressed the UAE's commitment to supporting regional and international efforts for a political solution in Yemen that meets the aspirations of its people for security, development, and stability. He reiterated the UAE's solidarity with the Yemeni people and their legitimate aspirations for growth and prosperity, aligning with its policy of promoting the interests of regional communities.
