During their weekly meeting, the council discussed updates on governmental work in the emirate, reviewed reports from departments and governmental bodies, and was briefed on the progress of development projects being implemented in various cities and regions.
In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, aimed at enhancing healthy living and providing facilities that cater to all age groups, promoting their health, the council has approved the establishment of the Sharjah Healthy Cities Network, the first of its kind in the region. This initiative extends Sharjah's recognition as a Healthy City by the World Health Organization.
The network aims to enhance cooperation in implementing policies that support health and well-being, and in implementing regulations and standards in all cities and regions of the Emirate of Sharjah that align with the Healthy Cities program of the World Health Organization.
The council reviewed the report of the Permanent Committee for Deprived of Social Care , which included the highlights of the committee's work during the year 2023, where the committee held 48 meetings and issued a total of 620 decisions.
The report outlined the committee's efforts in establishing general policies for social welfare, including the issuance of policies on social sponsorship and financial sponsorship, as well as the organization of a registry for families approved to adopt unidentified children.
The committee's efforts also included working to provide and secure the rights of deprived of social care, identifying foster families or social care institutions or entities designated by the committee for the fostering and care or withdrawal of deprived of social care from foster families, and proposing the necessary regulations and systems for law enforcement.
The council was briefed on the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority 's response to the recommendations of the Sharjah Consultative Council regarding the discussion of the authority's policy, which included efforts to implement the recommendations in coordination with relevant entities.
