SDC publishes Al-Masrah October issue

South Sudan celebrates Arabic Poetry under Sharjah's patronage

Sharjah 24: The sixty-first issue (October) of Al-Masrah magazine, published monthly by Sharjah Department of Culture (SDC), included a collection of readings, interviews, follow-ups and letters about local, Arab and international theatrical activity.
In the "Introduction", the magazine published a survey with a number of local artists about their perspective on the development of the theatrical costume industry in the UAE, in addition to coverage of the most prominent events presented by the eleventh Kalba Festival for Short Plays.

In "Readings", Linda Mounir wrote about the use of caricature in the play "Fardat Helm", the latest work by Syrian director Raed Khalil. Manar Khaled wrote about the dramatic structure in the play "Al Ikhtbar" by Egyptian director Abdel Rahman Mohammed. While Awad Ali highlighted the message of unity and peace presented by the play "Romeo and Juliet" by Iraqi director Fadel Al Jaf. Joan Jan wrote about "Al Bakhil" by Syrian director Rana Jamoul. Ibrahim Al Husseini discussed the text and the performance in his reading of the play "Zaghrouda" by Emirati director Abdel Rahman Al Mulla.

In “Interview”, the magazine published an interview conducted by Samer Mohammed Ismail with Jordanian director Abdel Salam Qabilat, in which he spoke about his beginnings and his influence on studying theatre in Russia, and his experience in establishing the independent “Shams Theatre” in the Jordanian capital. 

In "Visions", Fahd Al Kaghat wrote "Peter Brook's Space... Between Quantitative and Theatrical Vacuums". Saeed Karimi wrote "The Classical Legacy of Postmodern Theatre".

In "Travels", Jamal Yaqout narrated one of his trips to the Greek capital, Athens, highlighting the aesthetics of its architecture, cultural spaces, and theatrical monuments.

In "Horizons", Al Hussam Mohieddine interviewed Lebanese director Hashem Adnan. 

In "Letters", Sherif Al Shafei wrote about the latest Chinese theatre shows, Wael Saeed about the revival of "lyrical theatre" in Egypt, and Saeeda Sherif about the list of new shows that theatre audiences in Morocco will watch, while Rabah Houadef wrote about the deep-rooted and renewed presence of Algerian women in the field of theatre directing.

In "Studies", Muntajab Saqr wrote an article about the book "Theory of Modern Drama" by German critic Peter Sonde. 

"Follow-ups" includes two short interviews with Tunisian director Issa Taher Bel Arabi and Moroccan actress Fatima Zahra Shatwan, and a reading of the play "Hamlet" according to the directing version of the Canadian Robert LePage written by Patricia Kenny and translated into Arabic by Lamia Shammat.

The section included an article by Sabry Hafez on the aesthetics of dramatising literary genres based on his vision of the play "Elizabeth Costello: Seven Lessons and Five Moral Tales" by the Polish director Krzysztof Warlikowski.
