Sharjah 24 – AFP: Spain's Carlos Alcaraz has advanced to the semi-finals of the men's singles competition at the China Open, defeating Russia's Karen Khachanov 7-5, 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
The world number two will face another Russian player, Daniil Medvedev, in the semi-finals. Medvedev secured his spot after beating Italy's Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 6-4, as he aims to win his first title of the year.
Alcaraz reached the semi-finals of this tournament last year but was defeated by Italy's Jannik Sinner, who went on to win the title.
