Sharjah 24 – WAM: Louvre Abu Dhabi has announced the arrival of five remarkable artefacts on loan from the National Institute of Anthropology and History in Mexico. Unveiled by Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the museum, and María Teresa Mercado Pérez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, these items include a ceremonial mask from Calakmul, marking their first display in the region, available until at least April 2025.
Since its opening in 2017, Louvre Abu Dhabi has celebrated global creativity and cultural interconnections through strategic partnerships. This collaboration with Mexico further enhances its mission to promote a universal narrative.

Al Mubarak noted that culture fosters understanding and mutual respect, while Mercado Pérez emphasized the significance of this exhibition for promoting Mexican culture in the UAE.

The five artefacts include: Colossal Head No. 5 (Olmec culture), Incense Burner ‘Theatre-Type’ (Teotihuacan culture), Anthropomorphic Mask (Teotihuacan culture), Ceremonial Mask (Maya culture), and Atlante from Chichen Itza (Maya culture).

Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, expressed pride in this collaboration, underscoring the museum's role as a hub for cross-cultural exchange. Visitors can explore these treasures until April 2025, gaining insight into Mexico's rich heritage.
