Sharjah24: On behalf of all athletes in the emirate, Isa Hilal Al-Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, thanked His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for approving the site of the new sports city in the emirate's central region.
He confirmed that the city will include four sports complexes, with a central stadium designed as an architectural icon reflecting sand dunes at its base and falcon wings at its roof, as stated by Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, member of the Executive Council and Head of the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) on the "Direct Line" programme.
Hilal said that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has thrilled all athletes with his announcement regarding this city, which would significantly expand the UAE's infrastructure and enable it to hold big worldwide competitions and events, as well as local and regional events.
The Sports Council Chairman also praised the main stadium's architecture, describing it as an emblem that combines history and modernity while incorporating characteristics of the UAE's nature, including mountains, sand dunes, and a strong falconry and hunting culture.
He finished by noting, "His Highness' kindness towards sports and athletes is immeasurable. The new city is simply one of his many lasting accomplishments, and there is no doubt that it will motivate the council and athletes to do much more for UAE sports. The Sports Council will continue to support all sports, both team and individual, in order to develop potential generations and leaders capable of attaining all objectives.
