Sharjah 24: In a recent interview with Sharjah 24, Anshu Santosh, the Farm Manager at Sharjah Sustainable City (SSC), shed light on the city's groundbreaking agricultural practices and commitment to environmental sustainability.
Santosh explained how biodomes have been seamlessly integrated into the city's smart infrastructure. These enclosed environments, numbering around six, each have the capacity to cultivate between 7,000 and 8,000 plants. The biodomes produce an impressive 10,000 kg of fresh produce annually, which is distributed to residents, promoting local food consumption and reducing the carbon footprint associated with imported food.

To maximize efficiency and sustainability, the city employs hydroponic systems, including nutrient film techniques and deep water culture. This allows for the cultivation of a diverse range of crops, including lettuce, mint, basil, thyme, tomatoes, and chilies.

Sharjah Sustainable City's innovative approach to urban living is exemplified by its biodome technology. This initiative aligns with the city's broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions. As Santosh emphasized, the city's dedication to eco-friendly practices and healthy living makes it a desirable destination for those seeking a sustainable lifestyle.
