Sharjah 24 – AFP: The United States secured their fifth straight Olympic men's basketball gold on Saturday, defeating France 98-87 to claim their 17th Olympic title.
LeBron James and a US team stacked with NBA stars proved too much for France, despite a strong performance from NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama. France cut a 14-point deficit to three with 3:04 left, but Stephen Curry’s clutch three-pointers sealed the win. Curry led with 24 points, including eight three-pointers.

Kevin Durant and Devin Booker added 15 points each, and James contributed 14 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists. Durant earned his fourth Olympic gold, a record for US men’s basketball, while Curry claimed his first in his Olympic debut.

Wembanyama led France with 26 points, but the team struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just nine of 30 three-point attempts. Despite their efforts, the US held on for the win.

Earlier, Serbia won bronze with a 93-83 victory over Germany, led by Nikola Jokic’s triple-double of 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists.
