In a workshop attended by 120 members of the Sharjah Summer Programme at Al Hamriyah Club, participants were educated about agriculture by specialists from the Agriculture and Gardens Department at Al Hamriyah Municipality. They were introduced not only to the significance of agriculture but also to various concepts related to agricultural practices, organic fertilisers, suitable agricultural environments, types of seedlings, and specific tree species like ghaf and almond, as well as ornamental plants.
The workshop, which began yesterday morning, supports Al Hamriyah Municipality's involvement in Sharjah Summer activities under the theme "Our Summer is Extraordinary," organised by Al Hamriyah Club under the auspices of Sharjah Sports Council.
This summer programme follows Al Hamriyah Municipality's adoption of plans involving its national workforce from different departments and sections, collaborating with Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club to launch initiatives and programmes benefiting local youth.
During the workshop, participants learned about agricultural professions, plant types and their characteristics, planting seasons, irrigation methods, and plant care techniques. They gained insights into essential steps in agriculture, such as selecting appropriate soil and optimal planting seasons, and were instructed on manufacturing organic fertiliser at home using household recyclable materials.
The workshop organisers stressed to Sharjah Summer participants in Al Hamriyah the importance of using chemical-free organic fertiliser, highlighting its benefits in enhancing soil quality and its significant role as a safe and natural nutrient for plants. They emphasised its ability to warm plant roots due to its rich content of essential compounds beneficial for seedlings.
