Sharjah Airport, Air Arabia launch first direct flights to Athens

Sharjah 24: The Sharjah International Airport Authority and Air Arabia announced that the Greek capital, Athens, has joined the latest direct travel destinations for passengers via Sharjah Airport, as the first of these flights was launched this week from Sharjah to Athens International Airport.
This will provide travel and tourism enthusiasts with 4 flights that will be operated weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, with a plan to add the number of flights in the future.

The event witnessed the presence of His Excellency Ali Salem Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah International Airport Authority, His Excellency Adel Al Ali, CEO of Air Arabia Group, His Excellency Antonis Alexandridis, Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to the United Arab Emirates, and a number of officials from the Sharjah International Airport Authority and Air Arabia.

In this context, His Excellency Ali Salem Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah International Airport Authority, said: “The launch of the new air route to Greece represents an important addition to the planned development and expansion plan of Sharjah Airport by providing more favourite international destinations for travellers and diversifying the options for them, in keeping with the growing demand in the country, along with the travel and shipping sectors between the UAE and the Republic of Greece, and it is consistent with the strength and diversity of mutual relations between the two countries, especially in areas related to the economy, tourism, trade and other activities and business.”

His Excellency Ali Salem Al Midfa pointed out that the Emirate of Sharjah is characterised by a unique system of various tourist, entertainment and natural destinations, which constitutes major components for attracting tourists from Greece to visit its various landmarks, in addition to the presence of optimal opportunities for investment, and launching businesses and activities of various kinds, pointing out that Sharjah Airport is connected to 26 international airlines for passengers from more than 100 destinations in 63 countries.

In this context, Adel Al Ali, Group CEO of Air Arabia, said: “Athens represents the latest addition to our growing network of destinations in the European Union countries from Sharjah, joining Krakow in Poland and Milan in Italy. The new flights provide our customers in the UAE and abroad with more opportunities to explore Greece through our distinctive services based on the principle of added value. Our launch of direct flights to Athens confirms our commitment to providing our passengers with new, seamless and affordable options, and we look forward to welcoming our customers on board our aircraft to learn about the rich history and ancient cultural heritage of Athens."

It is noteworthy that the strategic plan adopted by the Sharjah International Airport Authority seeks to raise the total number of passengers annually to 25 million passengers by the end of 2027, through expanding direct international flights, enhancing its various facilities, while supporting them with the latest advanced systems and technologies, and continuing the implementation of expansion projects, with the aim of providing the best services with the highest international standards in the travel and aviation sectors, in order to enhance the safe and smooth travel experience it provides to travellers.
