During the meeting which was held at the office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah , SEC discussed the general policies of government work in the Emirate of Sharjah and explored ways to develop them in line with the significant progress and comprehensive development witnessed by the Emirate across all sectors and diverse segments of society.
The council also reviewed the annual report of Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) , which included the department's achievements and statistics for the year 2023 in various social fields it specializes in.
The report included the field of social security, which encompasses social assistance amounting to AED 434,377,000 that benefited 10,931 citizen beneficiaries. The number of beneficiaries of the complementary grant for retirees in the Emirate of Sharjah, which was directed by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, reached 4,582 beneficiaries, with a total value of AED 239,542,000.
Regarding the field of social care and protection, efforts in shelter services were highlighted, with a total of 325 residents. Additionally, 248 urgent reports and 3,776 non-urgent reports from individuals without social care were handled. The number of beneficiaries of services for the elderly and people with disabilities amounted to 6,144.
In the field of community service, the report clarified the number of social awareness programs, which reached 5,267 programs targeting 142,947 participants. It also highlighted the achievement of 924,895 volunteer hours. In addition, field efforts were made in inspecting professional licenses, with a total of 968 inspection visits.
SEC was briefed on the response of the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority to the recommendations of Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) regarding the discussion of the authority's policy. The importance of the recommendations presented by the Council was emphasized, along with the need to coordinate with relevant entities to implement them and enhance the emirate's tourism status in response to the increasing tourist demand.
