Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, affirmed that the statistics recorded at Sharjah Airport during the first quarter of the current year showed an increase in passenger numbers by approximately 10% compared to the same period last year. This reflects the efforts exerted by Sharjah Airport Authority and the various entities operating at the airport to become one of the top 5 regional airports, enhancing its leading role in providing a safe travel experience and leading services for everyone. He expressed confidence in the increasing pace of passenger movement and the growth of flight operations in the upcoming period, especially with the ongoing expansion projects at the airport, which will increase its capacity to accommodate 25 million passengers annually by 2027.
He noted that the significant progress witnessed by Sharjah Airport across various aspects is the result of a long-term ambitious plan implemented in cooperation with strategic partners from the public and private sectors. This contributes to strengthening its competitiveness and leadership by enhancing operational performance and delivering services according to the highest international standards. It is accompanied by the continuous development of infrastructure, facilities, technological systems, and the use of smart solutions to further enhance travel procedures with greater efficiency and effectiveness, as well as expanding the network of connections with our tourist destinations worldwide.
The statistics indicated that last March was the most active month in terms of the number of flights, with a total of 9,127 flights, as well as in terms of cargo volume, with a total of 17,700 tons transported. Meanwhile, January was the busiest month in terms of the number of passengers, with 1,444,525 passengers.
