SEWA announced that teams dealt with more than 5,200 reports in the city of Sharjah from April 15 to 29, 2024. SEWA also dealt with approximately 820 reports in the city of Kalba and 299 reports in the city of Khorfakkan. The Authority carried out repair and maintenance work in the central region, in addition to maintenance work at electrical stations and transformers in all regions, to address the effects and electrical faults resulting from the exceptional weather conditions.
Engineer Ahmed Al Bass, Deputy Director of the Electricity Distribution Department, explained that emergency teams in Sharjah worked around the clock to deal with reports and restore electrical power in the affected areas.
Al Bass added that teams were able to restore electrical service to more than 1,300 distribution substations, and repair damage to 376subscribers’ cables, which contributed to addressing the effects of the depression in all regions in record time.
Engineer Youssef Al Hammadi, Director of the Kalba Administration, indicated that the emergency department at SEWA in the city of Kalba received approximately 820 reports due to low rumbling from 16 to 30 April, through several means of communication, including the call centre number (991).
Engineer Saud Abdulaziz, Director of the Khorfakkan Administration, explained that work teams in the city of Khorfakkan dealt with 299 reports that were received according to the best specifications and in the fastest possible time, and the technical teams made intensive efforts for maintenance in all sites.
Engineer Khalifa Al Tunaiji, Director of the Central Region Administration, confirmed that the emergency maintenance work in the Central Region, after the depression, included re-examination of the 275,000-metre-long underground cables in the different locations of Al Bataeh, Al Rafia, Tahil, Al Hawiyah, Bin Rashid, Mahafiz, Nizwa, Al Badayer, Al Madam, Blida, Qatah, Maliha Street, Kalba Road, Hamdah, Al Hufaira, Al Madinah, Al Dhaid Safari, Khorfakkan Road and all areas.
The work also included comprehensive maintenance of 65,000 metres of overhead lines, installation and replacement of 45 aerial transformers, maintenance of 240 distribution substations, construction and installation of 25 new distribution substations, maintenance of 180 RMUs, and repair and installation of 360 11 KV poles.
