Sharjah 24 – AFP: Four individuals have tragically lost their lives, and five others remain missing following an explosion at an Italian hydroelectric power plant.
The incident occurred at the Bargi plant operated by Enel Green Power, situated on Lake Suviana in central Italy. Alongside the fatalities, three individuals sustained injuries during the blast, prompting a response from the local fire service.

Images from the scene depict smoke billowing from the plant, where firefighters are diligently conducting search operations for the missing individuals. Mayor Marco Masinara of Camugnano described the explosion as a "terrible workplace accident," emphasizing its profound impact on the community. Initial reports suggest a collapse of a floor slab within the facility, complicating rescue efforts due to significant water ingress.

While an official cause has yet to be determined, Bologna fire department head Calogero Turturici confirmed at least one person's serious injury. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her concern over the incident on social media, pledging to monitor the situation closely.

Enel Green Power, the company overseeing the plant, assured coordination with authorities and emphasized the safety of the dam basin following investigations. Production at the plant has been suspended, although there have been no reported disruptions to local or national energy supply. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of its staff through rigorous adherence to internal safety protocols.
