Sharjah 24: Fatima Al Shuwaihi, Head of the Cultural Guidance Department in the Heart of Sharjah, affiliated with the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), stated that a tour was organised in the Heart of Sharjah, to introduce the region’s past and history, through the three main souqs.
She added to “Sharjah 24,” that the tour started with Al Arsah Souq, which is the first souq in the UAE, and is more than 180 years old. During the tour, visitors are shown the new shops after the restoration process, after that they inspected Al Shanasiyah Souq, which was built on the same old foundations of the fifties of the last century, revealing small and medium enterprises located in the souq, in addition to the archaeological site that tells the history of the region.
She pointed out that during the tour, a visit to Saqr Souq was held. The souq is distinguished by its huge gates built of coral, which are opened in the morning and closed in the evening, where shops sell perfumes, fabrics, antiques, and other products.
