Syria's Al Thawra Club, Jordan's Fuheis on track to glory

Sharjah 24: After securing their third consecutive win on Monday, Syria's Al Thawra Club and the Jordanian Al Fuheis team successfully are on track to qualifying for the final match in the women's basketball competition at the ongoing 7th edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2024).
The newcomer, Syria's Al Thawra Club, faced off against Saudi Arabia's Capital Club, clinching a win with a final score of 78-58. The game started strong for the Syrian team, setting a solid lead in the first quarter with a score of 24-12, demonstrating their abilities early on. The match continued with a competitive edge, with scores at the halftime mark reflecting a closer game at 35-30. However, Al Thawra significantly widened the gap in the third quarter, surging ahead to a striking 60-42 lead, showcasing their superiority and cohesive team play.

Jordan's Al Fuheis Club asserted their supremacy on the basketball court with an easy victory over Iraq's Gaz Al Shamal, ending the game with a score of 82-41. In the first quarter, the reigning champion set a commanding tone by leading 21-9, asserting early on their intent to control the game. Their momentum only increased in the second quarter, widening the gap to 47-21 as they outplayed Gaz Al Shamal with a mix of sharp shooting and tight defence. By the third quarter, Al Fuheis Club further solidified their lead, pushing the score to 65-30, before ending the match to their advantage.

Meanwhile, Al Ahli Club secured its second victory over UAE's Sharjah Women's Sports Club with a decisive final score of 74-59. 

At the end of the round, Syria's Al Thawra Club and Jordan's Al Fuheis Club bolstered their standing at the top of the overall standings with a perfect score and an undefeated record, advancing to a tally of six points each, two points ahead of both the Saudi Capital and the Bahraini Al Ahli Club. The loss of the Iraqi team resulted in them remaining in fifth place with three points, just one point ahead of Kuwaiti Al-Fatat and UAE's Sharjah Women's Sports Club.

Tuesday's basketball schedule presents a thrilling array of matches, beginning with a face-off between the Sharjah Women's Sports Club and Kuwait's Al-Fatat SC. Next in line, Iraq's Ghaz Al-Shamal SC challenges Syria's Al Thawra Basketball Club, aiming to halt the newcomer's impressive winning streak. The intensity escalates as Jordan's Al Fuheis, the reigning champions of AWST 2020, takes on Bahrain's Al Ahli SC. Al Fuheis is determined to assert their dominance in the 7th edition of the tournament.
