Sharjah24 - Reuters: Iraq has embarked on planting 7,000 mangrove trees around the Grand Faw Port in oil-rich southern Basra province in a bid to reduce soil erosion and provide a better environment for marine life and migratory birds.
The project aims to reduce soil erosion, control rising temperatures and provide a better environment for marine life and migratory birds.
Commenting on this, Abbas Kazem, Project manager stated, "Mangrove trees are one of the most important trees, and we benefit from this tree in several ways, including protection from climate change. In addition, this reserve raises the percentage of oxygen. According to advanced international studies, the mangrove tree raises the percentage of oxygen twice as much as regular trees, and it pulls out carbon dioxide."
