Sharjah 24: The Cultural Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah organised the Sharjah Cultural Salon during which focus was made on the presence of Emirati women on stage and in playwriting. The media session was moderated by Aisha Al-Ruwaimah, and presented by researcher and theatre critic Mohammed Sayed Ahmed, and writer Dr. Basima Younis.
Critic Mohammed Sayed Ahmed defined culture saying it includes all acquired customs, traditions and values, which are reflected in behaviour. He added that culture has a specialised meaning, which is the possession of information and knowledge in issues of thought and knowledge. The playwright must possess a broad culture in various fields.

Dr. Basima confirmed that women have different ideas stemming from their experience, and writing for theatre requires a lot of experience, accumulations, ideas, stories, and language. The language of playwriting has its own specificity, but at the same time, we still have a void regarding the presence of women on stage, and she pointed out there are talents which find no one to embrace and support, stressing the need to pay attention to this aspect.

Mohammed Sayed Ahmed confirmed that Sharjah, thanks to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, is considered an incubator for theatre, and the best supporter of distinguished theatrical works.

Salha Ghabish, head of the Cultural Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, confirmed that the Emirates’ literature truly embraces all forms of literature, including theatre, and it is planned that there will be intense interest in theatre by organising competitions, seminars, and cultural sessions, in addition to presenting theatrical performances, provided that the text is distinguished by its strong language, depth of presentation, and talent in presentation. Theatre actually has a complex process that is not easy, especially since the writer must take on all the characters in the show, regardless of their differences, contradictions, and diversity. There are actually talents that need our encouragement and support.
