Sharjah 24: In line with the visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, regarding interest in agriculture, spreading green areas, and encouraging agriculture, the municipality announced the launch of the Most Beautiful Home Garden Award in its 17th edition under the title ‘My Garden, My Sharjah’, through which it allows participation in the most beautiful home garden designs in Sharjah.
In this context, Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of the Sharjah Municipality, confirmed that this award was launched by the municipality nearly 20 years ago, to enrich the cultural and aesthetic aspects of the city of Sharjah, which is characterised by its many agricultural projects extending over wide areas, and enhances its civilised appearance with the green spaces, trees, shrubs and flowers it contains.

Al Tunaiji explained that the municipality has opened registration to participate in this award and receive applications starting today, Wednesday 17/1/2024, and has allocated several channels to receive participants’ requests, including the municipality’s website and the call centre 993, indicating that the award is limited to home gardens in the city of Sharjah, provided that the participating park is implemented and ready for evaluation by the team allocated by the municipality to study and follow up on all applications and visits to gardens submitted for the award for evaluation in accordance with the approved standards and evaluation aspects.

The Director General of Sharjah Municipality indicated that the award includes 3 categories: the Natural Garden category, through which the natural style is applied by leaving the land as it is, including its rise and fall, and plants are also left to grow naturally without cutting or pruning, and the roads flow naturally. The Geometric Garden category through which the geometric or symmetrical style is applied, in which one form of coordination is repeated with a completely symmetrical geometric system in its various parts, and most of the coordination lines in it are straight; regular geometric lines are sometimes used. As for the third category, the Creative or Mixed Garden, which combines the natural and geometric styles in the designing process. The geometric style is observed in the parts surrounding or adjacent to the buildings or at the entrance to the garden, while the natural aspect is adopted in the rest of the garden.

He stressed that the award aims to involve the community in greening efforts, expanding green spaces, enriching the aesthetic dimensions in the Emirate of Sharjah, enhancing competition among community members in caring for private gardens, educating the city’s residents on the best practices in the field of greening and landscaping, and encouraging residents to apply sustainable garden standards, such as rationalising irrigation water consumption, exploiting solar energy, rationalising energy, choosing the type of plants and trees suitable for the local environment, taking into account security and safety aspects in gardens, keeping pace with global trends and following systematic steps to preserve and develop the environment and reduce the dangers resulting from human practices that are harmful to the environment and confront problems of the era and climate change, and directing residents to methods of landscaping and designing gardens that suit their different tastes
