Sharjah24: The Cultural Affairs Department of the Culture Department arranged a series of cultural events and artistic workshops as part of the 25th edition of the Islamic Arts Festival, themed "Manifestations." Salma Qalqan, an artist from Turkey, led a workshop named "From Lines to Golden Papers – Techniques of Designing and Drawing on Gold Papers." Commencing with the creation of abstract decorative lines, she then applied gold following gilding art principles. Participants closely followed the process and actively engaged in practical exercises with the artist.
Professor Mustafa Al-Obaidi conducted another workshop, titled "Gilding Plant Ornaments," at the Women's Union Association. The workshop began with a detailed explanation of how to gild branches and plant motifs. Ornamental motifs, including external and internal lines, were drawn, with students and the audience actively participating in the workshop's hands-on activities.
At the Sharjah Center for Arabic Calligraphy & Ornamentation, Professor Jalal Al-Muharib presented two works in different formats at the Women's Union Association in Sharjah, utilising watercolours and various inks. The audience witnessed an explanation of the process and techniques, demonstrating how to approach each type of artistic work to achieve the final result.
The Islamic Arts Festival commenced on December 13th at the Sharjah Arts Museum, featuring numerous artistic activities, including the opening of both internal and external art exhibitions throughout Sharjah and the hosting of diverse artistic workshops.
